Support at Home Explained Simply
Thinking about changing your aged care provider? You're allowed to. If something doesn't feel right, or your needs have changed, you can choose a new provider, at any time, without a new assessment, and without losing your funding. This guide walks you through exactly when it's worth making a switch, and how to do it with confidence.
Why People Choose to Switch Providers
Sometimes it's not about something going wrong; it's about something not feeling right. You might be ready for a change if you want more support to stay independent, your needs have changed, communication with your current provider feels hard or unclear, or you're simply looking for a more personal, human approach to your care.
Whatever the reason, the decision is always yours. You can change providers at any time, without needing a new assessment, and your funding moves with you.
How to Change Providers, Step by Step
Switching providers is a straightforward five-step process. Start by checking your current agreement for your notice period (often around 14 days) and any conditions on ending services. From there, take time to find the right new provider for you; asking questions about how they support your independence, who your main point of contact will be, and how their fees are structured.
Once you've decided, let your current provider know in writing and agree on an end date. Then call My Aged Care to get your referral code; your key to switching and share it with your new provider. They'll accept your referral, set a start date, and work with you to build a new care plan.
