How Your Budget Works under the Support at Home Program

The Support at Home program provides more flexibility in the allocation of your funds, encouraging regular use for care and support. Budgets are allocated on a quarterly basis, making it easier to track and spend.

If you have Unspent Funds

If you do not use all of your quarterly budget, you can carry some of it forward to the next quarter. Under the Support at Home rules, you can carry forward up to $1000, or 10% of your quarterly budget, whichever amount is greater. This provides you with a buffer for changing needs without allowing large balances to accrue over time.

How Pinq Care Supports you

At Pinq Care, we plan your support proactively, so your funding works for you, not the other way around.

Your Care Partner will:

  • Monitor your budget across the quarter
  • Help plan ahead for higher cost items or periods of increased support
  • Make sure you understand how and when your funds are being used

At Pinq Care, you only contribute to the support you receive. Clinical services, like nursing and therapy, are fully covered by the Australian Government, so you can focus on living comfortably and independently at home.


How Your Contributions Work under the Support at Home Program

Your contribution depends on your financial situation and the type of support you are eligible to receive. You only pay a share of the cost for non-clinical support, based on your income and whether you receive a pension.

There is a lifetime limit of $130,000 on how much you pay for Support at Home services and residential aged care combined. Once this cap is reached, you stop paying contributions, helping provide you with certainty and protection over time.

If you are unable to afford your contribution, you are able to apply for financial hardship assistance, which ensures your care and support remains consistent without interruption.

This is a detailed look at what your contribution owing will be under the Support at Home program:

Full Pensioners

Full pensioners contribute:

  • 5 percent towards Independence services
  • 17.5 percent towards Everyday Living services

Part Pensioners

Part pensioners contribute:

  • Between 5 percent and 50 percent towards Independence services
  • Between 17.5 percent and 80 percent towards Everyday Living services

The exact amount depends on your income and assets.

Self Funded Retirees

Self-funded retirees contribute:

  • 50 percent towards Independence services
  • 80 percent towards Everyday Living services
