Support at Home Explained Simply
Support at Home is the Australian Government's new way of helping older Australians get care in their own homes, replacing the previous Home Care Package program.
If you're already receiving a Home Care Package:
You'll move across automatically, your current services will continue, and any unspent funds will carry with you, with small changes to package structure; which we will discuss below.
If you're yet to apply for a Support at Home Package:
You can do so by accessing the My Aged Care Government website here.
The Changes to Services under Support at Home Packages:
Services are now grouped into three categories:
- Clinical Care
- Independence Support
- Everyday Living
Understanding the difference matters, because it affects what's fully funded by the government and what you may be asked to contribute toward.

Understanding Your Funding Options
Funding under Support at Home is now split across eight levels, ranging from just over $10,700 to more than $78,000 per year, and is paid quarterly rather than all at once. This gives you clearer visibility over your budget each period, with the ability to carry a small amount forward if you don't use it all. What you personally contribute depends on your income and assets, as assessed by Services Australia; not your provider; and clinical care always remains fully funded with no out-of-pocket cost to you.
When your funding letter first arrives, you may not have access to your full budget straight away.
Many people start with interim funding of around 60% of their total amount, with the remainder released automatically over time. There's no extra paperwork or follow-up requirements.
Depending on your situation; it helps to know your full budget, your available budget now, and your referral code, and to prioritise the essentials: personal care, medication and safety, allied health, and important appointments; while you wait for the rest of your funding to become available. There's also a 56-day window to sign a service agreement with a provider once your letter arrives.
Finding a good provider can make your Support at Home Package stretch further
This is where a good provider makes the difference.
At Pinq Care, our approach is built around you, not around a system. One dedicated Care Partner gets to know you and coordinates everything on your behalf, allied health is integrated into your care from the start, and every conversation about cost is honest and upfront.
From your first call to My Aged Care through to building a care plan around your goals, we're with you at every step.
