What is an ACAT Assessment?
The Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) visits you to understand your needs and determine the support required to help you live independently and safely at home. It is your gateway to a funded support plan. Whether you are in need of help around the house or more hands-on support, ACAT determines the level of care you require, and Pinq Care will be guide you through the entire process.
Step 1: Book your ACAT Assessment
If you are:
- Over 65 (Or 50+ if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander)
- Needing assistance with daily tasks
It might be the right time to book your ACAT Assessment!
Here's how you can do this:
- Call My Aged Care: 1800 200 422
- Visit myagedcare.gov.au
- Or ask your GP to refer you
You’ll usually hear back in 2 to 6 weeks (or sooner if it’s urgent).

Step 2: Get Prepared
Here is what you will need for your ACAT Assessment:
- Medicare card and photo ID
- Health/DVA cards
- List of medications and health notes
- Contact details for your GP and specialists
- Notes about daily challenges (e.g. stairs, cooking, showering)

Step 3: Complete ACAT Assessment
What to Expect on the Day
Your assessor will come and visit you at home or speak with you by phone. Don't worry, it’s not a test. It’s a relaxed conversation that covers:
- What's working well for you at home
- Where you’d like more support
- Your health and mobility
- Your support network
They may check for home safety issues like slippery floors or tricky stairs.

Step 4: Post-Assessment
After you have completed the ACAT Assessment, you will receive:
- Results from your assessment after 2 to 6 weeks
- A personalised support plan
- A referral code for approved providers like Pinq Care
